Get to know the Book Blogger Tag!

I thought it would be a good idea to introduce myself through a book tag. Tags are kind of like short, random questions to get to know a person and they are very popular on YouTube. This fun tag was kindly created by Lauren @ Lala’s Book Reviews— so all the credit goes to her!

Maybe in the future I will do more tags— I’ve already spotted a few fun ones while browsing for this one.

1. Introduce yourself!

Hello! My name is Alyssa. I am 21 years old, law student at University in the UK. Growing up I learned to play the piano, violin and the guitar, but the lessons stopped. However, I do hope to re-learn the piano someday. Reading books is my favourite pastime, and now through this blog I am able to share my love for it with all of you.

2. Do you have any pets?

I do. We recently adopted a rescue dog a couple months ago, named Stark. He is, quite frankly, the favoruite of the family these days— not that he’s complaining, I bet.

3. What is your favorite thing to drink?

I have fresh apple juice almost every morning for breakfast, so I guess it’s safe to name apple juice as my favoruite beverage to drink. However, if we were talking about “signature drinks”, my typical Starbucks order is: 1 iced, skinny vanilla latte with an extra shot of express. So, so basic.

4. What is your favorite season?

Definitely Winter. It’s the Christmas season and the first break of the academic year as a university student. For some reason, I would rather be really cold than really hot. Plus, I love wearing my winter coats and rain boots.

5. Do you have any special talents?

I learned how to play the piano and the guitar when I was younger— unfortunately I don’t remember much. I would like to relearn how to play the piano again one day. I was also part of a dance team throughout high school, and learnt aerial silks at the same time. Most of the “fun” I had in high school were what happened after school (lol)

6. When and why did you start your blog?

I started my blog in the beginning of 2021. I wanted to start a book blog simply because I wanted a place to keep all my book reviews, and a place to talk about books in a more personal way. This blog also helps me keep track of books that I have read and written reviews for in a more condensed setting.

7. What has been the hardest part about blogging?

Consistency. I am the absolute worst at being consistent, and unfortunately to manage a blog— consistency is key. I’ve heard from fellow blogger friends and sources that claim to help grow your blog that all you need to do to see results is to be consistent in posting new posts.

The same goes for any other media platform— whether that is Instagram (@novelstorian), TikTok (@novelstorian) or YouTube (maybe one day!). Consistency is the answer.

8. What has been the most rewarding part of blogging?

Seeing people interact with the posts that I’ve made is probably one of the most rewarding parts of blogging because it just cements the fact that there are people who have read and liked your work. Whether that’s through liking, commenting or even sharing my blog— it really does mean a lot to me.

9. Do you write your posts a head of time or write them the day of posting?

I mostly write my blog posts ahead of time just because I will get an idea for a blog post at the most random times, so I find myself having to write a draft or else I end up forgetting whatever the idea was. Book reviews are almost always written as soon as I finish a book just so that my thoughts are still fresh in my mind. I usually find myself posting a blog post two days after it was initially written, just to double check the writing and in case any more new ideas pop up.

10. Who are your top 5 favorite authors?

(In no particular order)

Shari Lapena

Leigh Bardugo

Merissa Meyer

Ruth Ware

Simone de Beauvior

11. What genre do you read the most?

I would say I read Thriller/Mystery novels the most. If I am ever in a reading slump, the first genre I turn to is a thriller novel because 99% of the time it’ll pull me out of that slump. I think what appeals to me about classic mystery “whodunnit” novels is the fact that I will actively try to piece together the clues and solve the murder as the story goes on. These kinds of novels get my brain going.

12. What genre surprised you by how much you love it?

Fantasy. Mainly Young Adult (YA) Fantasy novels. It’s probably the second most-read genre on my list. I’ve never been the biggest fan of fantasy novels, but these days I’ve been reading quite a few— like Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo which I absolutely loved and adore.

13. Which popular book didn’t live up to the hype for you?

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I read this book after I watched the film (didn’t cry btw) and it just did not do anything for me. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I found it to be quite mediocre.

14. Who are some popular authors you haven’t read?

Oh boy. Here’s a snippet from that long list:

1. Sarah J. Maas

2. Neil Gailman

3. Rainbow Rowell

4. Stephen King

5. Patrick Ness

15. What upcoming release are you excited to read?

I write all about my most anticipated book releases every month. Here are some of the previous month’s ‘Most Anticpated’ lists:

Note: I have realised that sometimes a new book will slip under my rader and will not be included in my monthly anticipated posts, so I am thinking of possibly posting about updated lists of new releases that I am excited for in a separate blog post.

16. Do you listen to music while reading?

I do not listen to music while I read. This is mostly because I prefer quietness whenever I’m reading— I want to immerse myself into the world of the book that I am reading. I also find myself drowning out the rest of the world if I am really into the book, so putting music on would be kind of pointless.

However, if you have a playlist to share— please feel free to leave it down in the comments below and I will love to take a listen to it sometime!

17. Where else can we find you online?

Luckily my username is the same across all my social media platforms:

Goodreads: Novelstorian

Instagram: @novelstorian

Twitter: @novelstorian

If you would like to do this book tag yourself, please feel free to do so! I would love to learn more about my readers and friends here!
